With Christmas just a week away, it’s time to see if we can pay for the presents with a big price weekend treble! There is no apologies for the three selections made this week and at odds of 68/1 with Stan James, it could worthwhile having a couple of quid on this outrageous bet with what we consider to be justified reasons. If it comes off, Christmas is paid for, if it doesn’t – just cross someone of your Christmas Present list!
QPR v Manchester United – Home Win @ 7/1
Why not? Manchester United have been grinding out wins over the last few weeks and have been struggling badly in front of goal. Admittedly, after a below par run which saw them knocked out of both the Carling Cup and Champions League, they hit Wolves for four last week, but they were far from convincing and Wolves played poorly in defence. QPR have played well against the bigger clubs this season, we all remember their excellent 1-0 home win over Chelsea in October, they have also given league leaders, Manchester City and Liverpool a run for their money. This makes the 7/1 that the football odds go about QPR winning at home excellent value, which is why they are worth backing as a single and can be included in the speculative treble.
Manchester City v Arsenal – Away Win @ 9/2
As per QPR, a solid argument can be made for Arsenal beating City. Chelsea showed with their comeback win over leaders ‘City’ at Stamford Bridge that Mancini’s side aren’t invincible. It was a match where Chelsea after going a goal behind, adopted a higher line which eventually denied City space and allowed the ‘Blues’ to take them on man for man. Chelsea eventually took the game to ‘City’ they became less intimidated and backed themselves to outplay them and succeeded with great aplomb; Arsenal can do exactly the same.
Arsene Wenger’s men very rarely adopt a defensive posture and it is their quick attacking and passing game that can provide a first home defeat for the Manchester billionaires. They should have beaten ‘City’ in their recent Carling Cup encounter but they will have a full strength side out this week and will also have Robin Van Persie in the form of his life and the odds compilers have taken a real chance on them at 9/2!
Charlton v Oldham – Home Win @ 4/7
It seems odd that emphatic League One leaders Charlton are only an 4/7 odds on bet to beat Oldham at the Valley this weekend, particularly as they unbeaten in the league at home and Oldham are hardly a team regarded as good enough to beat them.
Oldham has managed three away wins in the league this season, but none have come against a team of Charlton’s quality; they have also suffered four defeats ‘on the road’ this season. Add to the mix that Charlton are scoring at almost three goals a game at home this season making the task for Oldham, who are conceding at almost two goals a game away from home that much the greater. Charlton look banker material and can extend their lead at the top of the League One Table with three points.
