This weekend features a full slate of soccer action, with the top leagues around Europe playing, and Premiership action in full swing. One of the hottest teams in the league right now, Tottenham Hotspur, look to continue their late dominance and apply even more pressure on the top teams as they close in on the league led.

They play at home to end January taking on a desperate Wigan Athletic club that is in need of points.

Tottenham Hotspur enter this match in third position in the Premiership table through 22 games, with 14 victories and four draws, a total good for 46 points. They are five points clear of fourth place Chelsea, but continue to trail second place Manchester United by five points and top seeded Manchester City by eight.

The clubs returns home after a giant collapse against top-ranked City as they played Manchester nearly to victory, only to fall at the end. Tottenham scored two second half goals within five minutes apart, after trailing to City on the road by a 2-0 margin. Hotspur drew even, and the score remained the same until a late extra time goal by Mario Balotelli to put City on top.

Instead of staying five points back of City, or even within two points had Tottenham pulled the upset, Hotspur falls back eight points. Still, they have a solid hold on third place and return home where they have been dominant. They have only one loss at home all season, and just two draws to go with eight victories. In those matches they have allowed a mere nine goals while scoring 21.

They will host Wigan Athletic, the club lowest on the table currently, with three wins, 15 points and a 20th position rank. They have lost three in a row and four of five, and remain three points back of 19th place Wolverhampton Wanderers and a full four points away from getting out of the relegation zone.

Still, of their three wins, two have come on the road, where they also have earned two draws.

Betting lines: Tottenham Hotspur is the clear favourite and rightly so. They are one of the best clubs in the league and nearly beat out Manchester City. At home they should run all over lowly Wigan Athletic, winning handily 3-0.
