Manchester City for all their spoils at the Etihad Stadium have not looked like the same imperious force as they did towards the earlier stages of the season.
The Blues have found themselves knocked out of the FA Cup and Carling Cup by rivals Manchester United and Liverpool in recent weeks, as cracks have appeared to have formed in City’s performances of late.
Manager Roberto Mancini can now afford to focus on the race for the Premier League title, which is looking ever more like a two horse race between themselves and neighbours United.
However City are looking to do a double this year as they remain in the Europa League competition with, a clash against Portuguese champions Porto on the horizon.
The Blues travel to the home of the Europa League title holders on February 16, which will be an extremely tough test for the Premier League outfit. Anyone looking at the best Europa League odds should remember this.
Unlike City, Porto are on an impressive run of form and have not been beaten in their domestic campaign so far this term.
The Portuguese giants secured their 12th league victory last weekend with a football/default.stm”>comfortable 3-1 win over Vitoria de Guimaraes and City could do with watching the tapes to get a better idea of what they are up against.
There is no doubting the quality City possesses and with their host of superstar the club, they do have the potential of getting a result to take back to the Etihad Stadium for the return leg.
Away goals will be crucial and with the likes of Edin Dzeko, Sergio Aguero and Mario Balotelli in attacking roles, City have the personnel to bag a goal from nowhere.
But Porto will be no pushovers and Mancini’s men will have to be at their best if they are to reach the last 16 of the Europa League.
