Another weekend feast of Premier League football comes into focus with several matches that could go either way; plus of course there is the Carling Cup Final at Wembley between Arsenal and Birmingham. Here’s a preview of the pick of the action along with the picks of this weekend’s football betting.
Aston Villa v Blackburn
Villa who looked that they were very much on the up with a run of three wins at the end of January, appear to have returned to their poor form of earlier in this season with only two Premier League points taken so far this month. They could however be coming up against a team who are showing even worse form in Blackburn who have not won any of their last four games, which it includes a 1-3 reverse against Villa in the FA Cup.
Prediction: Villa Home Win @ 4/5 with Boylesports.
Everton v Sunderland
Everton have not been beaten at home since December but have drawn far too many of their games. They will be on a high after dumping Chelsea from the FA Cup last week, but will need to be at their best if they are to claim a rare Premier League win. Sunderland must be wondering what has gone wrong lately, having got themselves into the top six with a great run of form; they now come into this match having lost their last three league games.
Prediction: Draw @ 11/4 with Victor Chandler
Newcastle v Bolton
This could be a cracking match with two teams playing well currently. Newcastle will have fond memories of their last home match which saw them come back from 0-4 to Arsenal to draw 4-4, since then they have drawn away at Blackburn and defeated Birmingham last week by 2-0. Bolton has won four of their last five matches conceding only one goal in the process and confidence is high within the Owen Coyle camp.
Prediction: Draw @ 12/5 with Skybet
Wigan v Manchester United
Although it can hardly be described as a revival, league struggles Wigan are unbeaten in their last three Premier League matches which include a 1-1 draw against a resurgent Liverpool a fortnight ago. United however will not want a repeat of the result they came away with last time they met a relegation threatened club in which they lost their unbeaten record 0-1 to Wolves. United won the reverse fixture 2-0 and a similar outcome should be expected this weekend.
Prediction: United Win (-1 on handicap) with betting-directory.com/bookmaker-bet365.php” target=”_blank”>Bet365
Wolves v Blackpool
This is an absolutely crucial match for both clubs where no quarter will be given or taken. It is somewhat ironic to note that the last two league wins achieved by Wolves were against Chelsea and Manchester United, but in between they have continued to struggle for points although to be fair they have not enjoyed the best of luck lately. Blackpool come into the match on a high after demolishing Spurs 3-0 in midweek, which came on the back of a well earned draw against Aston Villa ten days previously, which stopped a run of five defeats in a row.
Prediction: Wolves Win @ 10/11 with Betfred.
West Ham v Liverpool
West Ham have certainly been trying hard and have been finding the net regularly in their last few games, however they will know that they will have to be at their best to prevent a resurgent Liverpool from grabbing all three points in this crucial game on Sunday. Robbie Keane will be in the starting line up for the ‘Hammers’ and it would surprise no-one if he was to score against his former club.
Prediction: Liverpool Win @ 6/5 with Victor Chandler
Manchester City v Fulham
City has won all six of their last six home games and has been scoring for fun at Eastlands, scoring 21 goals in those matches. Fulham on the other hand has been struggling so far this month with two league draws against Aston Villa and Chelsea and a defeat in the FA Cup last week against Bolton. However this match will see Fulham boss, Mark Hughes back on his ‘old stomping ground’ meaning that he will have his team well up for the match.
Prediction: Manchester City Win (-1 on handicap) @ 6/4 with Paddy Power
Carling Cup Final – Arsenal v Birmingham
This should be a fantastic occasion for both sets of fans that should be treated to a cracking match which is definitely a foregone certainty in Arsenal’s favour. The Gunner’s might be heavy odds on favourites to win, and may have already recorded the double over Birmingham this season, but Wembley brings an ‘X Factor’ in the underdogs and it would not be a surprise to see this go into extra time. Birmingham has won five of their last seven games in all competitions and should have a full complement of players to pick from.
Arsene Wenger is no doubt aware that his side has failed to pick up any silverware since 2005 and this represents their best chance by far this season. They should win but his team will have to be prepared to ‘go down to the wire’ to do so and penalties may not be out of the question.
Prediction: Arsenal Win on penalties @ 12/1 with William Hill
